RELEASE:
TaskInsight 3.0 Task Manager Adds Timeline Graphics and Functionality Enhancements for Project Management and Presentation — Imaja Upgrades Productivity/Business App for Mac OS X
Berkeley, California, USA August 10, 2011: Imaja upgrades TaskInsight 3.0 with additional graphic timeline settings, background images, import and export to TSV and XML data files, export of the timeline view to HTML5 web page files, AppleScript scriptability, many new commands for working with the task list and timeline view, and support for new features in Mac OS X Lion (10.7): Full Screen, Versions, Automatic Termination and Sudden Termination and Resume.
Improved Timeline Graphics in TaskInsight:
Improved grid label display in Timeline view to show day of week (Mon, Tues, Wed… or M T W…) based on current zoom level. Numerous enhancements for customization of the timeline view include background images with the option of color tinting or brightness changes, gridline colors with transparency, transparency for text and label colors, margin settings, automatic snap to time grid for dragging tasks in the timeline view and new keyboard navigation commands. A new popup task text and label editor is added for timeline editing, and Go To Date is added for easy timeline navigation. A new task attribute has been added to indicate "percent done" graphically in the timeline. The new Duplicate command and enhanced drag-rescheduling are supported by Undo and Redo. Timeline drawing operations have been optimized for greater speed in updating large timelines. In addition to the base priority color settings, a separate set of priority colors has been added to the timeline settings as an option for the timeline graphics context.
New Functionality in TaskInsight:
New commands Copy Visible Columns and Paste Visible Columns add customizable options to the Copy and Paste commands for moving tasks within TaskInsight documents or to other applications. The copy commands create color-coded tables in RTF (Rich Text Format) on the Pasteboard that can be pasted into other applications such as word processors, e-mails or other documents. The many new features enhance the task/todo list project management capabilities, and are directly influenced by our customers and our software design department. A new search function provides label-specific searching. New contextual menus are provided to set priority, status and percent done for selected tasks in the Timeline or List views.
The new import and export functions support TSV (tab-separated values) and XML files for sharing with other database, spreadsheet or project management applications. The timeline view can be exported as an HTML5 Canvas graphic for web publishing or sending by e-mail; this enables people to see your timelines without needing the TaskInsight application.
Versions is supported in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion): browse old versions of your documents and revert back to a specific version as desired.
Full-screen mode is supported in both Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion), including keyboard shortcuts.
TaskInsight supports Automatic Termination and Sudden Termination in Mac OS X 10.7, which provides better system memory management and recovery from system crashes.
AppleScript can be used to change properties of TaskInsight documents, such as various Document Settings, task properties and task views. Tasks can be created and modified with AppleScript. Sample AppleScript scripts for TaskInsight can be downloaded from the Imaja TaskInsight web page.
Page Setup and Print Settings, such as landscape or portrait orientation, and specific printer, are stored with TaskInsight documents.
Imaja's Greg Jalbert, project manager and software developer, points out the salient new features, "The enhanced timeline view and functionality in TaskInsight 3.0 upgrade makes it easier and more powerful to create evaluate, rearrange and present project schedules, task category structures and priorities. The timeline background image feature lets users create exciting timelines for presentation or publication. The new view customization is excellent for various working contexts. I use TaskInsight for organizing and tracking progress on complex software development projects with a combined history and future of almost 400 tasks. TaskInsight's productive feature set will be very useful for many types of users in business, education, engineering, presentation, home, office and other contexts. We're working on trying to prioritize a lot of input from users and our own research and inventive activities, and TaskInsight represent one more milestone on the project."
Overview of Pre-Existing Features for Those New to TaskInsight:
The new features build on TaskInsight's base of table and timeline-based task management system functions.
The unique interactive graphic Timeline view in TaskInsight supports zoom in and out on the time scale, dragging to reschedule selected tasks, search filtering, sorting and auto-sorting, font, font size, font color and background color customization, color-coded priorities, and extensive keyboard navigation. Many TaskInsight Timeline view features work in parallel with the table-based List view.
TaskInsight includes priorities, labels, color coding, manual and automatic sorting, drag and drop, copy and paste, undo and redo, import and export, customizable views, text-to-speech for selected tasks, and several optional fields. A number of new commands let users set the priority or status for the selected tasks. The Shift Time menu can be used to shift selected tasks in time in various increments. A number of simple and combination sorts can be selected from the new Sort menu or with keyboard shortcuts.
TaskInsight provides standard Mac OS X functions such as searching, drag
and drop prioritization, drag and drop text in and out of TaskInsight,
and includes extension features such as: copy items as tab-delimited text or color-coded tables in RTF (Rich Text Format),
paste text lines into tasks, table column customization, and text-to-speech output for selected tasks. Share task lists with other applications through the drag and drop and special copy and paste commands. Text can be resized for compact screen sharing views or large presentation views, and full screen mode can be engaged for presentations or focused task management sessions.
Document Settings provide display and behavior customizations. TaskInsight documents optionally include date columns for start, due, completed, created and modified dates so you can track the sequence of various tasks and states. Time of day display and editing is an option. Created, modified and completed dates are automatically set by TaskInsight, but can also be overridden. The Recent Documents panel provides quick access to important task lists. The new toolbar supports the standard customizability of button size, labeling, visibility and placement, and the toolbar itself can optionally be hidden.
Extensive keyboard shortcuts and keyboard navigation provide efficient productivity for power users. Thorough support for Undo and Redo, and drag and drop is provided. Documents or web URLs dragged into TaskInsight will create tasks with the document path or web URL for easy opening at a later date. The Recent Searches menu provides quick access to filtered views for categories and keywords. Standard, searchable documentation is provided through Apple Help, including a useful page on Keyboard Shortcuts. The Timeline or List view can be easily exported to PDF via the Print command for delivery to viewers.
TaskInsight is available for the price of $49.99 USD, available worldwide exclusively from Apple’s
Mac App Store in the Productivity and Business categories.
